HP printer detects refilled color ink cartridge (msg. on screen) & print quality is bad. Have they screwed us?

I bought a store-brand (refilled) color ink cartridge for my HP Officejet (7310xi All-in-One). When I installed it the screen gave a message saying ';HP Ink Depleted from Cartridge'; (specifically HP ink!). Obviously HP has put a smart chip in their cartridges to detect when ';their'; ink is depleted, meaning that it knows the cartridge has been refilled.

When I tried to print anything in color with that cartridge, the colors were screwed (mostly green). The message and poor print quality were both true on two different printers. So, this may just be a bad cartridge, and I will find out when I exchange it.

But... I'm wondering... does anyone know if HP has intentionally programmed their printers to NOT work with refilled cartridges, thus screwing us all and forcing us to by their own ridiculously overpriced cartridges?HP printer detects refilled color ink cartridge (msg. on screen) %26amp; print quality is bad. It is just reading the cartridge as empty, it has no idea whose ink you have in there. Cartridge and printers are dumb, they only know empty/full. It has no idea if the cartridge has been refilled or not it is just reading that the cartridge is empty and therefore the ink is depleted.

Refilling and remanufactuing is imperfect from time to time you so get a bad cartridge which appears to be your case. I would exchange it, and if you find this issue again switch to another brand of third party ink or use the OEM. Remanufactured cartirdges can save you a fortune, however there is a trick to finidng a brand that will print just as the original HP did.HP printer detects refilled color ink cartridge (msg. on screen) %26amp; print quality is bad. Just a friendly message from HP.

According to HP:

Intelligence built into Original HP ink cartridges provides a host of time-saving features including alerts that let you know when ink cartridges need replacement.

Refill cartridges come in different qualities, some of them being safe and good, while the others can give bad quality prints.

I only know that Espson printers come with some protection counters, not the others.
