Epson Stylus Photo R300 printer, how do i print using just one cartridge?

It takes 6 different coloured cartridges and the light cyan %26amp; magenta are empty. I just want to print in black though, can this be done without having to go and buy more ink?

all of the epson printers i have don't really allow printing while having empty cartridges or empty slots. even though you still have a lot of black ink left, you may have to refill or buy a new cartridge.

No, the printer underlays all colours to form black. You cannot over ride the empty cartridge warning. You do need to replace the effected cartridges.
